Who we are
South Yorkshire Probation Trust is a criminal justice agency
which protects the public by making sure offenders are properly
punished and rehabilitated. We work closely with our partner
agencies such as the Police, Prison Service, the Courts, Crown
Prosecution Service and Victim Support, to reduce crime and keep
our communities safer.
We are one of 35 probation trusts within England and Wales
that are part of the National Offender Management Service
(NOMS). We currently employ approximately 600 staff who work from
our offices throughout South Yorkshire and also within local
prisons, magistrates' courts and the Crown Courts at Sheffield and
Doncaster.
We manage more than 7,000 offenders every year with around 70%
of them being managed in the community, either on a community order
or on licence following their release from prison. The remaining
30% of offenders are in prison awaiting their release on
licence.
We work to the following strategic objectives, which aim to
protect all members of the community:
- Protection of the public through dynamic and responsive risk
assessment and management of offenders and those at risk of
offending
- Reduced re-offending by changing behaviours and lives
- Enhanced community safety through effective partnerships
- Public confidence that we are 'Making a Difference' by
increasing the safety of our local communities.
